Why We Need to Feel Heard - Articles from The School of Life, formally The Book of Life, a gathering of the best ideas around wisdom and emotional intelligence. One of our deepest longings – deeper than we even perhaps recognise day to to day – is that other people should acknowledge certain of our feelings.   When we feel heard, we are more receptive to hearing what we ourselves need to hear. On the contrary, when we don’t feel heard, we tend to close off and dig in our heels, even if we aren’t aware of stonewalling the other party. When we feel heard, we feel the other party is on our side. When we don’t feel heard, it’s us vs. them.

Tarana Burke and Brené on Being Heard and Seen Tarana is a good friend and one of my favorite people on earth. She has been working at the intersection of racial justice and gender equity for nearly three decades, and she started the “Me Too” Movement in Strategies to Ensure You are Seen and Acknowledged. My recent research interviewing women in senior leadership roles highlights some of the ways you can make yourself seen and heard at work — for the right reasons, of course! Here are five ways to be seen and heard at work: 1. Be Seen.
